January 22, 2011 (Sampurn Wire): Bon Jovi, Steve Perry, Styx, Twisted Sister, Journey, Asia, Poison and Pat Benatar rocked the 1980s with the Rock of Ages. The Broadway that featured songs from the glam metal bands is now planning to make it hit the big screen. Adam Shankman is the man behind developing the screenplay for the film and is to start rolling from later this year.
But the big question is who will be the leads, while the buzz is that Tom Cruise, Gwyneth Paltrow are almost edging towards giving a nod to the project to the British funny man and actor Russell Brand too is in the talks. Brand is eyeing the role of Lonny, the nightclub worker, who is also the narrator of the musical. Alec Baldwin on the other hand is circling for the role of Dennis the owner of the nightclub under whom Lonny works.
The rumor is that around last October Cruise started talking about the project and in December Paltrow too showed interest in working in the musical. Earlier there was a peculation that Seth Rogan might be the part of the project but that has been squashed and Sahnkman is working really hard on the flick, since he started developing it from 2009.
The Mission: Impossible star is said to play the role of Stacee Jax the decadent rock star and Platrow is to play the role of Sherrie, the love interest of Drew Bowie. Lonny is to narrate the story of the aspiring star Bowie. Still there are some major roles that are yet to be casted, like the German baddies Hertz and Franz, even roles of Regina and Justice is up for the grabs.
