The Hollywood actor, who is starring in upcoming DC Comics film Green Lantern, thinks his pastimes would surprise many. As he's in a die-hard comic book movie, many expect the 34-year-old to be nerdy but that's not the case. That said, he doesn't think he's particularly trendy either, although he's completely happy with himself.

"I wouldn't say I'm a cool guy. But I'm no geek either. I'm a pretty normal fella, I would say. I don't know how to play video games, which I guess in a backwards kind of way makes me the geek these days," he explained in an interview with Shortlist magazine. "I guess with geek being the new chic, if you're not geeky, you've actually become the geek somehow."

Ryan does have an "obsession" with gadgets though. The hunk has recalled a particular time when his enthusiasm for technology got the better of him.

"I'm also pretty geeky in my obsession with gadgets. I recently got my first iPad, and started picking the thing apart, testing it out, trying things out and then I looked up and realised it was, like, four days later. I had a beard, I'd lost 3lb, I had nails like Howard Hughes..." he laughed.

Ryan has a "self-deprecating humour" which he says stems from his childhood.

The actor is the youngest of four brothers, and thinks his fondness for jokes originates from being bossed around. The Canadian star often under-valued himself in a humorous way in order to get along with his older siblings.

"[Self-deprecating humour] was a survival mechanism with three older brothers," he quipped in an interview with ET Online. (C) Cover Media
