21st March 2013

Actor Sanjay Dutt has been sentenced to 5 years imprisonment by the supreme court. The actor has only four weeks to surrender.

Dutt was charged under Arms Act, where he was found possessing and later destroying weapons that were used in the 1993 bomb blast.

It was just three weeks after the release of his film 'Khalnayak', when he was arrested. Dutt had been in and out of court for four years spending almost 18 months in jail, until he was finally released on bail in 1997.

The court has reduced his imprisonment term from 6 years to 5 years. However, he still needs to serve the remaining term of 3 and a half years in jail.

This is going to affect the actor in a big way, considering that he has settled with a great family and many good films in the coming years.

Currently, Dutt is a part of films like 'Sher', 'Zanjeer', 'Ghanchakkar', 'Munnabhai Chale Delhi' and a few others.

The 1993 bomb blast was a severe incident killing 257 and injuring 713 people. It was a series of 13 coordinated explosions, shattering the metropolis on March 12, 1993.

The blasts occurred at 12 places including Bombay Stock Exchange building, Air-India Building at Nariman Point, at Worli opposite Century Bazaar, Hotels Sea Rock and Juhu Centaur.
