Spice Girls discuss releasing material

2nd March 2011

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Victoria Beckham is said to be opposing plans to release a new Spice Girls album.

Victoria and her band mates Mel B, Mel C, Emma Bunton and Geri Halliwell catapulted to fame in the 90s, becoming the decades biggest girl group. They stormed the international charts with their unique blend of fiery pop and also enjoyed success into the 2000s as a foursome following Geris departure in 1998 she rejoined the band in 2007 for their comeback tour.

It has been claimed Mel B and Mel C are eager to release a new Spice Girls album, as there are reportedly around 60 tracks which have been recorded over the past 15 years that have not yet been heard.

However, Victoria is reportedly reluctant for the album to happen as she wants to focus on her career as a clothing designer. She is also preparing to become a mother again as she is pregnant with her and soccer star husband David Beckhams fourth child. Geri and Emma are also said to be unsure of the idea, with a source telling British newspaper The Daily Mirror that the differing opinions have led to friction between the girls.

Both Melanies want to open up the band to a new generation of fans and keep the memory of the Spice Girls alive. They also believe its sound commercial sense to keep options open for new work down the line, explained an insider.

But Victoria has a hugely successful career as a designer and is pregnant. Shed rather distance herself from the group to concentrate on that. Shes not keen to revisit the Spice Girls days.

If the album does happen it would link in with the unveiling of the Spice Girls musical Viva Forever, which is set to open in London, England, next year. The musical will be based on the bands hits and will tell a tale of friendship and celebrity.

It has been claimed some of the unreleased songs are classic hits, and would guarantee another bout of success for the five-piece.

From a possible 60 tracks, three or four would be guaranteed number ones and theres definitely a solid albums worth from the songs, added the insider. (C) Cover Media
