The Two and a Half Men actor has been experiencing a tough time recently, with news emerging that the eighth season of the show has been cancelled after he was hospitalised in January having spent two days allegedly partying with porn stars before receiving rehab treatment at home.

More bad news came when his representative Stan Rosenfield announced his resignation yesterday, saying he was unable to work effectively as [Charlies] publicist.

Charlie appeared on Piers Morgan's CNN show last night, and told the interviewer of a morale-boosting telephone call he received from troubled star Mel Gibson.

"He was just, you know, not calling for any advice, just like thought you might like to hear a friendly voice," Charlie explained. "He was a stone cold dude. I was really impressed"

Mel, 55, has himself has been involved in some scandals linked to his battle with alcoholism. Charlie has been quick to express his belief that women must never be treated with physical aggression. The actor was asked by Piers if he had ever hit a woman, to which Charlie replied that he hadnt. He argued instead that women should be hugged and caressed.

The actor did discuss one incident rather mysteriously though, admitting that there was a time when people wrongly believed he had hit a lady.

"I'm sorry, there was an incident years ago, and everybody thought I hit her."

"I was trying to contain her. I had her arms and we both went to the ground... her initials are B.A.

I'll give you that much - I don't want to make the whole thing about her, he explained.

"And I felt terrible. I delivered her to the plastic surgeon and tried to like... and everybody said you hit her and I was like, no, she hit her thing. Whatever, it's over. I felt bad about that one.

"I never really told the story about that because everybody was under a gag order or something.

"There were heinous things that led up to it that I was trying to fend off. Whatever. I'll own it. (C) Cover Media
