(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Taylor Swift says it was important for her to write a song to Kanye West rather than one about him.
Taylor was famously on the receiving end of the rappers tirade at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) after he stormed the stage during her acceptance speech for Best Female Music Video claiming R&B star Beyonc Knowles was the rightful winner.
The hip-hop stars actions caused a huge backlash against him, with even US President Barack Obama criticising Kanyes behaviour.
To help heal the wound, Taylor performed a song called Innocent at the 2010 VMAs last month in which she described the incident.
Taylor says offering advice to Kanye in the song and letting him know she understood what he was going through was far more constrictive than using lyrics to describe the pain the incident caused her.
"I think a lot of people expected me to write a song about [West]," she told NYMag.com.
"But, for me, it was important to write a song to him."
The singer/songwriter says by doing that she felt in a stronger position, as she didnt want to be portrayed as a victim. Taylor feels positive about the whole saga now, and says her fans were a huge support throughout the time.
"It doesn't really add anything good if I start victimising myself and complaining about things. Because I'm proud of that performance at the VMAs last year, where my fans helped me get through it," she explained. (C) Cover Media
