Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes have reportedly been battling over how best to raise their six-year-old daughter Suri.

The 33-year-old actress filed for divorce from the Hollywood star yesterday and is seeking sole custody of their child.

And TMZ reports that the main bone of contention in the relationship was Tom's ties to the Scientology church and their very different views on raising children.

Sources told the site that Katie wants primary custody so that Tom no longer has control over decisions relating to religion.

Meanwhile, RadarOnline claims that there is no way Katie would let Tom have sole custody of Suri like he did with his two other children; Connor and Bella, following his split from Nicole Kidman.

"Katie wants Suri to go to school with other children and have a grounded routine whereas Tom doesn't," an insider told the site.

"Tom is nowhere near as strict as Katie is and doesn't believe in disciplining Suri, whereas Katie believes that's important. Tom basically treats Suri as a little adult, and that causes some major clashes over parenting style."

Katie also reportedly filed for divorce in New York because it is not a no-fault state giving her greater flexibility.
