Tom Delonge: Blink band is about money

27th February 2011

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Tom Delonge says being in band Blink-182 pays the bills.

Tom, 35, formed Blink-182 in 1992 with Mark Hoppus, and Scott Raynor, with Travis Barker replacing Scott in later years. The group underwent an indefinite hiatus in 2005, with Tom focusing on his Angels & Airwaves group. Blink-182 announced their reunion in February 2009 and theyre currently preparing their sixth studio album.

Although the band is financially satisfying, Tom says doesnt allow him to be himself, as the music they make is quite superficial. The bands lyrics are renowned for including date scenarios and teenage angst.

Blink does pay the bills, Im not going to say it doesnt, he told Kerrang! So, yes, I had to have a day job as well so Blink came back into my life. And its been wonderful.

The guitarist appreciates his band Angels & Airwaves named after his daughter Ava because it allows an avenue for him to be genuinely creative.

In Blink I only get to be part of myself. In Angels & Airwaves, I get to be all of myself, he added. (C) Cover Media
