(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Viola Davis has adopted a boy.

The 46-year-old actress and her husband Julius Tennon announced they were in the process of giving a child a home in August.

At the Elle Annual Women in Hollywood gala last night Viola confirmed the adoption has gone through. She and her spouse are now the proud parents of a little boy called Genesis. His age is not known at the moment.

The event pays tribute to those who have redefined women's roles in movies, and Viola was one of those being honoured.

Her friend Octavia Spencer praised the star in a speech during the ceremony, and revealed that Viola had become a mother "like, two days ago".

Viola then confirmed the new arrival.

The actress and Julius got married in 2003 and he has two kids from previous relationships.

Speaking at the Los Angeles premiere of her movie The Help in August, Viola revealed the pair were in the process of adopting "domestically" but didn't add any more information. (C) Cover Media
