Devdas' actress Ava Mukherjee passes away

Ava Mukherjee who essayed Shah Rukh Khan's on-screen grandmother in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's critically acclaimed 'Devdas', has passed away. She was aged 88 when she died. Famous for her work and stellar performances Ava Mukherjee started with the Bengali film 'Ram Dhakka' in 1966. Her admirable performance came from Sunhil Sippy's 2000 film 'Snip!', after which she essayed SRK's supportive grandmother in Devdas.

She even appeared in Satish Kaushik and Ram Gopal Varma-produced 2006 horror flick, 'Darna Zaroori Hai'. Earlier, Mukherjee was a copywriter, translator and writer. 

Mukherjee played the first lead role in the film which was directed by her daughter Romilla Mukherjee titled 'Detective Naani' (2009). Mukherjee plays Usha Dutt, an amateur detective in the film.

Moreover, Ava Mukherjee is popularly known for her television commercials, especially for the Himalaya Drug Company. She essayed the role of a grandmother beautifully in the late 2000 era. In an interview with The Hindu in 2002 she said, "I am happy when children recognise me and call me Dadima."
