Awards and accolades faithfully follow A R Rahman wherever he goes. Proving this once again is the Delhi based Global Indian Music Academy (GIMA), which has decided to honour the composer for his outstanding contribution to Indian film music.
The Academy will also honour Dr M Balamuralikrishna, Carnatic music maestro, with GIMA Award 2011 for his 'passion for innovation in Carnatic music which is matched by his relentless enthusiasm to promote Indian music all over the world.'
According to the organisers, Rahman has been selected in the film category as he had made the country proud by adding new value to film music. 'The Academy takes pride in honouring Rahman, who had fetched home Oscar and Grammy awards,' said the organisers.
The GIMA awards were considered to be a coveted honour and they were presented to sitar maestro Pandit Ravi Shankar in classical music and to Lata Mangeshkar in film music category last year.
