7th March 2011

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Avril Lavigne prefers her own company and hangs out in [her] head most of the time.

The 26-year-old Canadian singer became a global sensation with her 2002 album Let Go, showcasing her unique blend of pop-punk. She has now matured as an artist, and is currently promoting Goodbye Lullaby, her fourth studio album.

When Avril first became a star she was accused of being surly in interviews, which she has since explained was the result of shyness. The songstress - who is currently dating The Hills star Brody Jenner says she is still a shy person, and actually prefers being alone most of the time.

My music is kinda aggressive, but its done in a playful way. Im actually very introverted. I can be really quiet. I have that side to me. Sometimes silence; people might not understand it and can read it the wrong way, she explained.

Im a thinker. Sometimes I really keep to myself. I hang out in my head the majority of the time.

Avril believes it is necessary for her to spend a large amount of time alone each day to assist her creative flow. As a profound song-writer, Avril admits there are often many deep thoughts spinning in her mind. Even if people sometimes mistake her dreaminess for aloofness, the star insists the most important people in her life understand the way she is.

But Im an artist! Ha-ha! Ive got a lot going on inside that head! she told British newspaper The Times.

I know who I am, my friends and family know who I am, and I focus more on that. (C) Cover Media
