Colin Firth: I used to be arrogant

20th March 2011

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Colin Firth has never suffered from nerves because he always felt he deserved to command peoples attention.

The 50-year-old British actor recently won an Oscar for his performance in The Kings Speech and admits he has always been certain about his talent. Colin began acting at an early age and enjoyed appearing in stage productions in the UK.

He has confessed he was often overly confident in his younger years, but now feels humble about all he has achieved.

"Jitters keep within a limit. Even during my first big appearance in a theatre in London in front of 1,100 people I wasn't a bit nervous because I thought I had the right to be there, he told German television channel Tele 5. Today I would call that teenage arrogance."

Colin has carved out a career for himself playing brooding heroes in period dramas and straight-laced British gentlemen. However, he insists he likes to be challenged and is interested in playing villains or something completely different to his previous work.

"Renegades like the rampant star in Where the Truth Lies or the alcoholic in The Widowing of Mrs. Holroyd are not strange to me, he explained. Those were great roles even when they weren't noticed to a wider audience. Like every actor I am looking for variety." (C) Cover Media
