Drew Barrymore to direct Heist Society

1st July 2011

(Cover) - EN Movies - Drew Barrymore will direct and produce an adaptation of teen novel Heist Society.

Written by Ally Carter, the mystery novel was a huge hit in 2010, and it is scheduled to be adapted for a big screen outing in 2012.

It has now been revealed that 36-year-old Drew will produce and direct the picture, for which Warner Bros. gained rights for in a bidding war last year, reports The Hollywood Reporter.

The story of Heist Society is that of a young girl, Katarina Bishop, whose master criminal father is accused of taking five paintings that he actually didn't steal. She then discovers the paintings in Paris and sets about proving her father's innocence.

Drew made her directorial debut with 2009 drama Whip It, starring Ellen Page, about a misfit who escapes her miserable life at a roller derby league. Apparently Drew has asked Whip It screenwriter Shauna Cross to adapt the story from a teenage tale to one with characters in their 20s. (C) Cover Media
