Formula One: Inaugural Race today

30th October 2011

When it was first announced that F1 will be hosted in India, it felt like a dream which would be hard to realise. Considering the previous games hosted by India were a complete mess, many even adviced not to let this happen least India's reputation in the sports world would slide down further. But when finally the tracks were opened for the F1 racers, it was more than just a relief to hear their comments and compliments.

The Indian Grand Prix which is taking place at the $400 million Buddh International Circuit in a New Delhi suburb has captured the attention of the world. "It is probably the smoothest track in the world," said Mark Webber, a veteran of 175 races. Three times World Champion Jackie Stewart said,"It is the best new circuit in F1 that I have ever seen." Such appreciations coming from the people in the business will definitely bring back India's lost shine.

But no show can go on without a few glitches. Metallica which was to perform at the post-match F1 party, was cancelled after much speculations. But it was a minor hiccup and their place will now be filled with the performance by Lady Gaga. "I am finally here! What a dream come true! Performing at F1 in India," reads a post on her Twitter page.

The after party have seen tickets being sold at as much as Rs. 40, 000 each. So not just the F1 tickets, but also it's party tickets have a high price and a huge crowd. Shah Rukh Khan has confirmed his presence at Lady Gaga's show. At the second day of F1 after-party hosted by actor Arjun Rampal, saw a number of Bollywood celebrities like Preity Zinta, Fardeen Khan, Sudhir mishra and Nikhil Advani making their presence felt. The after-party will also be star-studded.

The race begins at 3pm and although all eyes will be on Vettel who was the quickest in the Saturday qualifying, Indian star Narain Karthikeyan will also be someone for whom the audience will be waiting for. Sadly for his fans, Narain will start last in the Sunday's race.

Even though the fans have complained that the Formula 1 tickets were over-priced, there has been a huge turn-out for the past two days. Deepika Padukone and Vijay Mallya were among the celebs who were seen cheering at the races. Sachin Tendulkar was also invited for the Grand Prix.

The Formula One is drawing to a close but Sunday will definitely be much more exciting with fans and celebs support this will be a successful event.
