Happy Birthday Maggie Gyllenhaal !!!

The gorgeous Maggie Gyllenhaal turns 33 today! Born on 16th November, 1977 in New York City, she's the daughter of director Stephen Gyllenhaal and screenplay writer Naomi Foner Achs. Gyllenhaal grew up in Los Angeles and studied at the Harvard–Westlake prep school.

In 1995 she graduated from Harvard–Westlake and moved to New York to attend Columbia University, where she studied literature and Eastern religions; she graduated in 1999 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. After studying at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London, she took a summer job working as a waitress in a Massachusetts restaurant.

She made her screen debut when she began to appear in her father's films. Gyllenhaal achieved recognition in a supporting role in the indie cult hit Donnie Darko (2001). Her breakthrough role was in the 2002 sadomasochistic romance Secretary, for which she received critical acclaim and a Golden Globe nomination.

Gyllenhaal has appeared in an eclectic range of films, including the indie film Sherrybaby (2006), for which she was nominated for a Golden Globe, the romantic comedy Trust the Man (2006), and big-budget films such as World Trade Center (2006) and The Dark Knight (2008). She next starred in the 2009 musical-drama Crazy Heart, for which she was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. Gyllenhaal has also appeared in theatrical plays, including Closer (2000), and television productions, including Strip Search (2004).

After a courtship of 4 years, Gyllenhaal got engaged to longtime boyfriend, Peter Sarsgaard in April 2006, and got married in May 2009. They also have a daughter, Ramona.

Gyllenhaal was ranked on the 58th place in FHM's "100 Sexiest Women in the World 2005" special supplement. Known for choosing unique roles, she has already created a trademark for herself, yet has a long way to go in the industry.
