Jon Hamm doesn't believe "over-sharing" is beneficial.

The Mad Men actor admits that he is reluctant to divulge the intimate details of his personal life.

Jon is a proponent of keeping mum about private affairs.

"Part of living a life in any kind of public arena is not over-sharing," he told People magazine. "We do live in a world where people want to seem to over-share consistently, but it's not for me."

Jon stirred up controversy last month when he told Elle UK that reality stars like Kim Kardashian and Paris Hilton were "f**king idiots".

The star is dismayed by what he believes to be the cultural source of the media frenzy.

"The fact that what I said has been echoed and turned into this whole thing is unironically exactly the point. It's meaningless, and yet it's become news'," he explained. "I probably should just keep my mouth shut. I've been adopted the WarGames philosophy, which is that the only way to win is not to play."

Jon can never imagine himself broadcasting his life on reality TV and is disinterested in the genre as a whole.

"The only reality shows that I like are ones where people create something," he said. "I don't like car-crash television."

The fifth season of Jon's show Mad Men currently airs Sundays on AMC network.
