Love and Love only...

Tamil cinema and love stories are like two sides of a coin. You can't even think about separating them. Even hard core action flicks come with a romance episode, and that's the beauty of love and Kollywood's attachment to it.

Deviating from all the love stories we had watched on screen so far is Kadhalil Sodhapuvathu Eppadi, a film by debutant director Balaji Mohan. Kudos to Siddharth, who has produced this film (by joining hands with Nirav Shah and Y Not Studios) for picking a young talent and supporting him.

The movie is a hilarious take on today's love. Watching Kadhalil Sodhapuvathu Eppadi is like staying with college students for a few days and having a close look at their day to day activities. So realistic and so enjoyable.

Arun (Siddharth) and Parvathi (Amala Paul), who study in the same college and good friends initially, slowly fall for each other. But misunderstanding erupts between the two as a result of which they had to part ways.

A dejected Arun goes on preaching his friends, asking them not to fall in love. As days go by, he slowly realises that he can't lead a happy life without his sweetheart. When he decides to smoke the peace pipe, Parvathy's parents decide to divorce each other and this puts Parvathy in a state of distress.

Siddharth shines bright and his performance is laudable. Amala Paul is cute and sweet. If the former is like Sachin Tendulkar, scoring boundaries each and every ball, the latter is like the 'great wall' Rahul Dravid, backing the film with her strong performance.

The rest of the cast, including Suresh, Ravi Raghavender, Balaji, Shyam, Arjun, Surekha Vani and Sivaranjani, have interesting roles to play and they have performed well.

Thaman's music is a good support to Siddharth's maiden production venture. Nirav Shah's lens captures youngsters in a colourful and youthful way.

To sum it up, though there are few loopholes and the second half is bit slow, Kadhalil Sodhapuvathu Eppadi is an enjoyable ride, making one to smile and laugh for a couple of hours.
