Kevin Bacon regrets expensive disguise

2nd June 2011

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Kevin Bacon regrets spending $500 on a custom-made disguise because he hated the way he was treated when no-one knew he was famous.

The star is renowned for appearing in dance movie Footloose, which was released in 1984. Although it's over 25 years old, fans still come up to Kevin and ask him about the film. Several years ago he decided it would be fun to go incognito for a while, so asked a specialist to make him a rubber face he could wear in public. The mask cost $500, and he immediately regretted it.

"You wouldn't have recognised me if I was standing next to you," he recalled. "It was really bizarre and I didn't really like it. I didn't like it at all. People cut in front of you and when you're at a check-out counter it's just different. People weren't all that nice to me. I'm just not used to it."

Kevin can be seen in this summer's superhero blockbuster X Men: First Class. He plays villain Sebastian Shaw, who harnesses energy from other people and uses it against them.

The 52-year-old was thrilled to win the role as he relished the chance to play someone evil. The movie also stars James McAvoy, who was equally excited about his role as Professor Charles Xavier because it meant teaming up with Kevin.

"I don't use this term but it just seems right Kevin Bacon is just a cool cat. For me, as a moviegoer, if you tell me Kevin Bacon is playing a villain in a summer superhero movie, I'm there man. I'd be excited, too, to see a film that is bold enough to go with that unexpected choice," he told LA Times. (C) Cover Media
