The Tamil film industry has identified a star in Anna Hazare and decided to observe a fast in Chennai on Tuesday to extend support for his movement against corruption.

“We are inviting all members (of Tamil film industry) through the media to take part in this one-day fast (supporting Anna Hazare)”, the Film Federation of India President L Suresh told reporters.

Producer Chithra Lakshmanan, who is one of the organizers, said directors, producers, actors, technicians, would join. Associations like Tamil Film Producers Council, Film Employees Federation of South India (FEFSI), and South Indian Artists Association would also take part, he added.

Participation would be voluntary and for the same reason, on-going shooting schedules would not be disrupted. Suresh said those who were interested could participate.

Asked whether ongoing-shootings would be cancelled in view of the protest, an office-bearer of a trade body in Kollywood said, “It is purely voluntary. Shootings will not be cancelled. Those who are interested and free tomorrow can come and participate”, he said.
