Lauryn Hill pleads guilty in tax case

Lauryn Hill has pled guilty in her tax evasion case.

The former Fugees singer admitted in U.S. District Court in Newark, New Jersey today that over the past 10 years she intentionally failed to file several tax returns.

TMZ reports that the mother-of-six now faces up to three years in prison for the federal crime.

The 37-year-old pled guilty to three counts of failure to file tax returns for the years 2005, 2006 and 2007. She had earned over $1.8 million in that time.

The judge asked the Grammy winner if she "intentionally and willingly" failed to file the tax returns to which she responded, "Yes." Lauryn could also face $75,000 in fines.

The Everything is Everything star was released on $150,000 bail and is due back in court in November for her sentencing hearing.

Much of the musician's money comes from music and film royalties. Her eight times platinum album The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill was released in 1998. She also starred in Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit opposite Whoopi Goldberg in 1993.
