(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Matthew McConaughey admits hes always wanted to be a lawyer.
The 41-year-old has made a career out of portraying members of the legal system, starring in films such as 1996s A Time to Kill and 1997s Amistad. The actor will return to familiar territory for his latest venture, in new thriller The Lincoln Lawyer. In the film, Matthew plays an attorney who practises from the back of his Lincoln Sedan car.
The actor believes he was born to play such roles as he has expressed an interest in the legal profession since he was a teenager.
I thought thats what I wanted to do with my life, since I was 14. When I was in school, thats where I thought I was heading. I changed my mind my junior year, when I looked up and saw two more years of school, then four years of law school. I thought, Youll be 28 by the time you get out and you can actually implement an imprint in society. I didnt like that idea. I didnt want to miss my 20s. I wanted to get experience and try something out, he told Collider.
However Matthew believes he has made the right choice in forsaking his legal ambitions. The star thinks he is blessed that he is able to sample the life of being a lawyer through his profession, without having to contend with its negative aspects.
Now, Im glad that I changed my path. I get to do this, and then go on to another story. That ideology that I had at 19 and 20, this character doesnt have that. The thing is that most of these defence attorneys are defending people who are guilty, and they know that. Its just to what degree, and how much you can ameliorate the sentence and bring it down. The system is much more of a game, he added. (C) Cover Media
