October 20, 2010 (Sampurn Wire): The IAF Designer Award held on the 6th of October in Hong Kong, this year, presented the best international designer award to Indian designers Pankaj & Nidhi. While the Indian duo walked away with the most creative designs of this year, Daphne iliaki from Greece won the prize for the most commercial design and Taiwans Chai-Wei Kang was awarded for the best way of using different fabrics in apparels. The names of the winners in respective categories have however only been announced and they will have to attend the 27th IAF World Apparel Convention to collect their trophies.
The creations of various designers from across the world were showcased in Hong Kong, with the theme for this years IAF being ladies summer costumes for the year 2011. Though the Hong Kong ramp invited one and all, it was the designers from the countries of India, Spain, Mexico, Greece, Macau, Taiwan and Hong Kong who dominated the catwalk at the IAF.
Organizers of the fashion show are of the opinion that the chief aim of the IAF Designer Award is to encourage fresh and young talent in fashion and to provide them the platform from where they can begin showcasing their creative designs. All member countries of the IAF association are invited to take part in the event each year, with each country given the choice of nominating one designer to represent that country in the event. The panel of jury members at the IAF take into account not only the designs but also the marketability of clothes showcased on the IAF ramp.
