Producers Council decides against FEFSI

24th January 2012

At the emergency general council meeting of Tamil Film Producers Council (TFPC) in Chennai on Monday, it was unanimously decided that producers can rope in workers who are not members of Film Employees Federation of South India (FEFSI).

The meeting was convened after FEFSI, without consulting the TFPC, 'unilaterally' hiked wages for workers. Irked by this decision, the TFPC convened an emergency meeting of its general council, where a decision was taken against FEFSI.

In a statement, TFPC said, 'Members of the Council are free to rope in workers other than FEFSI members The salary for workers will be decided by a committee formed by the Tamil Film Producers Council.'

To ensure that all members took part in the crucial meeting, the Producers Council announced that there would be no shootings on Monday.

A statement from the TFPC said on Saturday, 'FEFSI has announced its decision without consulting the TFPC. This has shocked many producers. For several years, any decision on such issues has been taken after consultations and dialogues.'
