Russell Crowe: Jackman has sweet voice

3rd April 2012

Russell Crowe says Hugh Jackman's singing is like "honey on the ears".

The pair are currently working on the new musical movie Les Misrables. Although they play bitter enemies in the film, they are close friends in real life.

Russell took to his Twitter account earlier today to pay tribute to his co-star's singing talents.

"working with @realhughjackman is such a pleasure. A gentleman . You wait until you hear him sing this role in Les Mis, honey on the ears (sic)," Russell wrote.

Both Russell and Hugh will perform a series of songs in the big screen adaption of Victor Hugo's classic book.

Hugh is no stranger to performing in musicals having several stints on Broadway and a Tony award already under his belt.

However, Russell recently revealed how tough shooting has been.

Director Tom Hooper wants the cast to perform their songs live as they film each scene which puts a lot of pressure on the stars.

"Pretty much every filmed musical ever done is mimed to a pre-recorded soundtrack... in fact i don't know of one not," Russell tweeted. "on this, as has been widely reported, we will sing every take and the orchestration will be recorded afterwards, radical really (sic)."

Although they get along well in real life, Hugh has reportedly been testing Russell's patience by cheekily asking to re-do their fight scenes for the movie.

For one sequence, Hugh's character Jean Valjean lands a direct hit on Inspector Javert, played by Russell.

"The crew find it hilarious as Crowe would obviously sweep the floor with Jackman in real life," a source told British newspaper The Sun. "Hugh keeps egging Russell on and winding him up."

Les Misrables also stars Anne Hathaway, Helena Bonham Carter, Amanda Seyfried and Sacha Baron Cohen. The movie is slated to be released worldwide from December 2012.
