Salma Hayek has joked she had to see a "shrink" after being "badly affected" by Bambi.
The actress is currently promoting her new animation Puss in Boots, in which she voices the character of Kitty Softpaws. The film is a spin-off from the Shrek franchise, with Antonio Banderas once again lending his vocals to the title character.
While discussing why the part appealed to her, Salma opened up about the films which have had the biggest impact on her life.
"More than inspire me, they sent me to the shrink first it was Bambi, you know, there was a severe depression at the age of six because his mother dies that's it, she wouldn't come back, there is nothing to it it affected me badly, I'm still working on that one," she joked to Cover Media. "Then there was all the princesses. Those messed you up because they made you feel there's going to be a prince that's going to come and rescue you and that if you're sort of cute you don't have to do much in life which is not true. I had to deal with that one for a long time."
Not all Salma's early movie experiences were bad though. She loved watching the 1971 movie Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, which starred Gene Wilder.
The movie is based on the book by Roald Dahl and follows a boy as he takes a tour of a magical sweet factory. It made Salma, 45, realise she wanted to act.
"That movie was a redemption because then somehow something clicked in my brain and I understood there was a place in the world where anything could happen, where there was no imitations. This is what made me want to be an actress because I realised there was a place in the world called films where you could go and you have no limitations," she said.
Antonio also loved cinema from a young age. He can recall watching an adaption of Peter Pan when he was just a boy which he fell in love with.
"I loved Peter Pan I saw the move when I was very young and it produced a huge impact on me, It doesn't mean that I have a Peter Pan complex because I grew up and I am responsible and I have a family, but I just loved the adventures of that and the possibilities of not growing up when I was seven or eight year old," he recalled.
Puss in Boots is released in the UK on December 9.
