Silk Smitha's family sues The Dirty Picture makers

5th November 2011

Late South siren Silk Smitha’s brother has sent a legal notice to the makers of the film for making the film without taking the family’s permission.

The much talked about film ‘The Dirty Picture’ starring Vidya Balan, Naseeruddin Shah, Emraan Hashmi and Tusshar Kapoor has fallen into legal trouble as the brother of late actress Silk Smitha, V Naga Vara Prasad has sent a legal notice to director Milan Luthria and producer Ekta Kapoor for making the film without the family's permission. Vara Prasad is apparently irked by the makers of the film as they have not taken the family’s permission before making the movie based on the life of controversial actress Silk Smitha.

According to a quote given by Vara Prasad to a tabloid, the family came to know about the movie through TV channels and newspapers that ‘The Dirty Picture’ portrays Silk Smitha in a rather obscene way. He further pointed out that neither did the director nor the producer contacted the family before making the film and that they don’t have a right to make the film without seeking permission from the family.

Confirming that a legal notice has been sent to the makers of the film, Vara further stated that there has been no response from the producers’ side and he will be sending a second notice in a couple of days through a High Court lawyer in Hyderabad. Moreover, if the makers decide to go ahead with the release, Vara and his family will be compelled to initiate proceedings.

However, the makers of the film have not yet released any official statement.

‘The Dirty Picture’ is set to release on 2nd December.
