Swiss cops fine Vishnu

14th July 2011

Veteran actor-producer Mohan Babu's son, actor Manchu Vishnu, was fined for speeding on the motorway by the Swiss police while he was in Switzerland. The Switzerland Road Traffic Office fined him 380 euros (nearly Rs 24,396) and pursued the case through Interpol, even after Vishnu had returned to India after completing shooting a film there.

A 'letter's rogatory' (communication between the courts of two countries) was sent to the CBI, which passed it on to Andhra Pradesh Crime Investigation Department. The CID sleuths executed the warrant, following which Vishnu paid 380 euros through Andhra Bank. According to Swiss rules, the speed limit on motorways is 120 km per hour but the actor was driving at a speed of 145 km per hour. Vishnu's car was caught on camera and radar.

Reports have it, that fines for speeding in Switzerland are calculated by a formula that includes parameters like the income of the person, type and make of the car and the speed at which the vehicle was traveling.
