Tom Hooper: Oscar win means I can experiment

10th May 2011

(Cover) - EN Movies - Tom Hooper says it will take a lifetime for his Oscar win to sink in.

The British moviemaker is one of the most in-demand talents in Hollywood at the moment after his historical film The Kings Speech earned four Oscars this year, including that of best director.

The biographical film, which starred Colin Firth as Britains King George VI struggling to overcome a stammer, moved cinemagoers across the globe and has catapulted Tom into film industry fame.

The 39-year-old, who has also helmed Red Dust and Elizabeth I, says he is still overwhelmed by the response he has received from the movie.

The response has been astonishing. Its been an extraordinary journey. It will take my whole life for it to sink it but thats fine, he said in an interview with BBC Breakfast.

Tom has an exciting project in the pipeline, although he is unable to confirm any details at present. The star has joked that in the meantime, he wants to spend time with his Oscar statue.

Im going to retire to a little shack with my Oscar. As soon as me and my Oscar have had enough time together, then there is something exciting in the pipeline, he laughed.

The critically acclaimed director says he doesnt feel the need to prove himself any more since winning the coveted award. Tom knows a lot of filmmakers spend their whole lives chasing the prestigious title of best director, but now he can ease the pressure off himself because he already has it.

There is a pressure to think How am I going to live up to that but I try to see it the other way, he explained. There are many eminent, genius directors who dont have an Oscar. I can take more risks now with my film choices because I got it out of the way early! (C) Cover Media
