Guillermo Del Toro: I need to improve

(Cover) - EN Movies - Guillermo Del Toro says he needs to get better as a director.

Despite his long list of movie successes, the modest Mexican filmmaker doesnt think he has reached his full potential yet.

Talking about his future projects, the busy producer-and-director said that while he learns from every movie he works on, he is going to need all of his skills for one of his future pictures, an adaptation of Mary Reillys novel Frankenstein.

"Im really not trying to be falsely modest, but I think I need to get better as a director. I dont think Im ready yet, Im being completely candid now, he told TotalFilm.com.

"Each movie, for me, I learn something. I make a point to learn something narratively, technically.

Comparing the story of Frankenstein to his past movies, Guillermo described the project as his most challenging yet.

Despite having created masterpieces such as Pans Labyrinth, the director explained why he finds the prospect of getting to grips with the literary classic daunting.

"The novel is so complex and the ideal way of doing Frankenstein would be as a four, five part gigantic miniseries. It really is almost impossible to compress and I think from a literary point of view, from a storytelling point of view, the movie Im planning to do is a very daring and perhaps a little crazy track, he said.

Guillermo also revealed some of his other upcoming projects, which include a movie adaptation of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and Roald Dahls The Witches. (C) Cover Media
