August 19, 2010 (Sampurn Wire): Veteran actor Ernest Borgnine, who has acted in many television shows and movies, is going to be honored by the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) with a lifetime achievement award next year, announced the organizers.
Borgnine's acting career started in the late 1940s by performing on stage. The actor got himself associated with the Barter Theatre in Abingdon, Virginia and got his first role on stage in 'State of the Union'. The turning point in his acting career came with his role as a bullying police officer in the 1953 drama film Here To Eternity. In 1955, Ernest won the Oscar award for his performance in the movie Marty. The actor earned a BAFTA and Golden Globe Awards for his performance as a lonely butcher called Marty Piletti, who lives with his mother in the Bronx. He has performed in more than 200 films in his six decade long career. Recently, he had a guest appearance in his latest acting stint in the final episode of medical drama ER.
Ken Howard, the president of SAG said that the 93 year old actor is still energetic and has an impressive body of work. The awards ceremony takes place on 30th January, 2011, when Borgnine will receive his honor.
