Actor Vijay's grandmother Lalitha Neelakandan passed away in Chennai on Tuesday. She was 80. A mother of two sons and two daughters including Vijay's mother Shobha Chandrasekaran, Lalitha suffered a heart attack earlier in the day.

'She was immediately rushed to Vijaya Hospital at Vadapalani. Despite doctors giving her best of the treatment, she breathed her last around afternoon. Vijay who is so fond of her grandmother was shocked to know the news,' family sources said.

Vijay, his cousin brother and actor Vikranth, Vijay's father S A Chandrasekaran (president of Tamil Film Producers Council) and a large number of friends of the celebrity family paid their last respects to the departed soul. 

After a memorial service at Nungambakkam Teresa Church, Lalitha Neelakandan's body will be laid to rest at Kilpauk, the sources added.
