Winehouse family happy to set record straight'

24th August 2011

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Amy Winehouse's father is glad the "record has been set straight" about her death.

The British jazz singer was found dead in her London home last month, aged 27. She'd fought a long battle with alcohol and drug addiction and many suspected illegal substances were the cause of her passing. However, toxicology tests released yesterday showed no illegal drugs were in her body when she died, although there was some alcohol.

"This doesn't make me feel the loss of my daughter any less, but we are pleased to be able to set the record straight to a certain extent," Amy's father Mitch told British newspaper The Sun.

Following Amy's death there were reports she'd bought drugs the evening before her body was found. The claims were never proven and during his eulogy at her funeral Mitch insisted she was clean. He also said she'd been trying to give up drinking, with her loved ones suspecting alcohol withdrawal might have caused a fatal heart attack or seizure.

Amy's on/off partner Reg Traviss has supported her parents following her death. The two are rumoured to have been secretly engaged and Mitch explained Reg struggled to deal with speculation about the late singer.

"Reg has said that the person that she has been painted as in some quarters was just so far away from the Amy he knew," he explained. "Some of the stories of her last few days were just not how they led their life together."

Although Amy's family found the toxicology report hard to look at, they are relieved with the findings. There is still no official cause of death and they are now waiting for the inquest to take place in October.

"The report is the hardest thing Mitch has ever had to read," a source told the publication.

"The family had been upset at some of the speculation about the circumstances surrounding her death and at people coming forward claiming to know what happened who clearly did not. They wanted to end rumours about drugs. Mitch made it clear at the funeral how he thought it happened - and these results begin to back that up." (C) Cover Media
