(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Wyclef Jeans commitment to Haiti is undeterred despite being shot in the hand at the weekend.

The 41-year-old musician was born in the Caribbean country and has been dedicated to helping the citizens of his birthplace, notably since last years devastating earthquake.

It was reported that Wyclef was shot on Saturday evening near the capital Port-au-Prince, with the incident occurring on the eve of the Haitian presidential elections. All is said to be well now and the star is determined to not let his dedication to the country be affected.

I have confirmed from Wyclef that he was immediately taken to the hospital, treated for a minor graze to his hand and released, Wyclefs rep, Cindy Tanenbaum, told E! Online, adding that the singer is now fine.

Wyclefs commitment to his native country and to his people is unparalleled. He is therefore undeterred by this incident.

The star is reportedly unsure where the gunshots came from. "The way I can explain it is that the bullet grazed me in my right hand," he is quoted as saying. "I heard blow, blow, blow and I just looked at my hand."

The talented star is supporting fellow musician Michel Martelly in his bid to become president. Initially Wyclef himself had hoped to run for the job, although last year Haiti's electoral council ruled that he wasnt eligible to do so as he hadnt lived for five consecutive years in the country before announcing his candidature. Last December the star released a record entitled If I Were President: My Haitian Experience, which documented his political aims. (C) Cover Media
