Even after CBFC clearance, Karni Sena still wants ban on 'Padmavati'

5th January 2018

Justice served for the makers of 'Padmavati' as the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) passed the film after a few modifications. However, Shri Rajput Karni Sena is in no mood to give this film a green signal and the protests continue to flow for the Sanjay Leela Bhansali's period drama. Today, the Karni Sena leader Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi in Delhi said that their protest won't go in vain and that they will not allow any insult to royal Rajput pride, Queen Padmini which is more than a deity for them. He also pointed questions towards pro-Hindutva organisations like the Shiv Sena and Vishwa Hindu Parishad that why they did not come forward to ban Padmavati.

Gogamedi also kept his fierce opinion that totally dis-matches with CBFC chief Prasoon Joshi for allowing the Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor-starrer to be passed and demanded that he be removed from his post. He also states that Padmavati director Sanjay Leela Bhansali should be behind the bars. Padmavati will now be given a U/A certificate by the CBFC after making the proposed modifications that include the title, which is to be changed to 'Padmavat', after Malik Muhammad Jayasi's epic poem of the same name on which it is based.

The decision arrived on the evening of December 28, 2017 after a viewing held for the Examining Committee members and the special panel, which also attended by CBFC chief Prasoon Joshi. A long discussion ensued, post which the makers of the film were met as well. Joshi said that the makers, director Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Viacom18, who are producing Padmavati, were "completely in agreement" with the modifications suggested by the CBFC.
