Brooke Mueller reportedly felt "forced" into going back to rehab.
The troubled ex-wife of actor Charlie Sheen was arrested for cocaine possession in Aspen, Colorado earlier this month.
Brooke checked into a long-term rehabilitation facility this week in response to the arrest.
A source close to Brooke believes the actress is displeased with having to focus on her issues with addiction.
"Brooke didn't want to go to long-term rehab," a friend of Brooke's told RadarOnline. "Brooke is still in denial about her addiction, and she wasn't happy that she was essentially being forced into going to rehab."
Brooke enrolled for treatment at the centre to help her legal case.
"The only reason she agreed to go was so that she could get a better outcome in her felony cocaine possession case," the source continued.
"Make no mistake, if there had been no arrest, she wouldn't be in rehab right now."
Brooke's arraignment for her possession charge had initially been scheduled for December 19 but has since been postponed until the end of January.
The source contends that this rescheduling was a crafty legal manoeuvre on the part of Brooke's counsel Yale Galanter.
"Brooke's lawyer needs to be able to get the judge to see that she has hopefully been working on her addiction. Monday was just way too soon," the insider explained.
Brooke's loved ones are apparently worried about her future.
"Brooke's family fears that as soon as the case is resolved, even if she is ordered to stay in treatment as part of any plea deal that she would immediately check out," the source said.
"Brooke isn't used to being told what to do by anyone, she is very stubborn and manipulative."
Brooke had completed a 45-day rehab program back in July to work on her drug and alcohol abuse problems.
She will visit court on January 23 2012.
Brooke and Charlie have two-year-old twin boys Bob and Max together.
