Kate Winslet uninspired by glamour roles

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Kate Winslets favourite roles are the ones where she gets to look like dog sh*t.

The British actress has been nominated for six Oscars, winning the best actress Academy Award for 2008s The Reader. She has been open about not feeling pretty enough to be a Hollywood star, explaining her appearance and weight was something she worried about when she was younger.

Although she is now happy with her body, the 35-year-old is glad she never relied on her looks to get her parts. She feels more comfortable playing downtrodden characters than she does glamorous ones, and thinks that will always be the case.

Its my chance to challenge myself to the fullest, which is one of the great joys about this job I love it when a character requires me to look less than my red-carpet best. Its more fun playing a character that requires you to look like dog sh*t, she told the April edition of Glamour. I have just wanted to be an actress. Thats always been my goal. I didnt want to be famous. I wanted to play incredibly challenging, multifaceted characters. Because we are all a puzzle.

[As a child people] would say... 'Youve got such a beautiful face, in the way of, like, Oh, isnt it a shame that from the neck down youre questionable.

Despite being criticised when she was growing up, Kate has never considered plastic surgery for a second. While she might harbour dreams of having entirely smooth thighs and a wrinkle-free complexion, she worries a procedure would stop her looking like herself.

I have never tried any of that stuff I dont have parts of my body that I hate or would like to trade for somebody elses or wish I could surgically adjust into some fantasy version of what they are, she explained.

Kate has topped the publications 50 Most Glam list for the third year running, but doesnt always view herself that way. She may be famous, but she still just sees herself as a mother who is struggling to do the right thing for her kids.

The star has ten-year-old daughter Mia with ex-husband Jim Threapleton, and son Joe, seven, with Sam Mendes, who she wed in 2003 but split from last year.

The challenge is making sure that theyre never treated different just because I sometimes am. I always want them to be regular kids who are grateful and respectful of other human beings. I want them to know that when we fly first-class, that they are lucky, she said. The highest compliment I could ever receive about my kids - and I can say that this does happen frequently - is when the in-flight crew say to me, Your children are wonderful. They are so well-behaved. Every time I am told that, I could weep. (C) Cover Media
