'Dam 999', a controversial film which has been banned in Tamil Nadu in the wake of the Mullaiperiyar dam row with Kerala, has been shortlisted among the 265 films that made it to the ballot list for the Oscars 2011.
In a press statement from Indonesia, the movie's director Sohan Roy said, 'I am really happy that it made it in the preliminary rounds. It has a very good chance (to win awards). Definitely it`s a great feel. We shall wait and see.'
The three songs from the movie that are vying to be in the final nomination list include 'Dakkanaga Dugu Dugu','Dam 999' Theme Song and Mujhe 'Chhod Ke'.
Sohan Roy, a marine engineer by profession, added: 'This is a crowning achievement for 'Dam 999' and my dream project has attained the true recognition it deserves.'
'Dam 999' is an English film that features Indian actors Rajit Kapur, Vimala Raman, Vinai Rai and Ashish Vidhyarthi. It has been dubbed in Telugu, Tamil, Hindi and Malayalam.
