Dave Grohl: Foos arent authentic

13th April 2011

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Dave Grohl says Foo Fighters arent an authentic rock band anymore because they travel in private planes.

Dave is lead singer in the American group, which also comprises of Nate Mendel on bass, guitarists Pat Smear and Chris Shiflett and drummer Taylor Hawkins. The legendary vocalist who is currently promoting the bands seventh studio album, Wasting Light - has revealed that at times hes not sure where the band slot into todays music scene, as they arent as grungy as they initially were.

Like 15 years ago nobody called us a rock band. We were alternative, or grunge or something. And its funny, we have sort of become something that we werent. We cant fly the Gilman Street punk rock flag because we do things like travel in private planes and we make a lot of money playing shows, he told NME magazine. We do things that most big rock bands do. But its important that we do it all... tastefully.

Dave doesnt want to band to go off the rails, and likes keeping their behaviour under wraps. The 42-year-old star says it was never his intention to earn cash from the Foo Fighters tours, as he did it for the love of music. He was shocked to find out that being on the road was in fact a money-making business.

Our world is really simple and I dont ever want to see it get out of control. Thats why after the last round of touring we took the break, because I felt it had the potential to go there, he said. Its funny because for the longest time I never looked at touring as a profitable thing. We lost money on every tour wed been on for f**king 12 years. But I didnt care, I just wanted to play and so most of the time I didnt even know about it, so it was fine. Then I got suspicious because everybody wanted us to tour more, tour more, tour more. And I realised, Wait a minute, other people are doing this for money? Really? How weird. We were never like that. That was never part of the intention. (C) Cover Media
