Florence Welch says adjusting to fame is the "most terrifying thing".

The Florence + The Machine frontwoman shot to fame with the band's debut album Lungs in 2009. Since then, she has seen her profile rise in both the music and fashion industries.

Florence admits to being overwhelmed with her star status initially.

"Before the first album came out I was in a pretty bad place. I wasn't ready and I did get really down and scared. I was terribly worried about rejection. In my first interviews I was completely open about everything, and then I realised, oh my God, it's all out there I can never have that secret because my life is now completely open to interpretation," she told the UK edition of OK! magazine.

"It's the most terrifying thing."

Florence says hitting the charts was an overwhelming experience. The British songstress got swept up in all the chaos.

"They were really hard times I don't think there'll be anything harder than that first record. I was terrified! I'd won a Brit [Award] before I'd even released an album. It was so much pressure," she said.

"It's your first experience of touring and someone gives you two bottles of vodka and you're on tour with these pretty hard drinkers, so you're going to go for it.

"We definitely enjoyed ourselves but I don't think I could do that again."
