(Cover) - EN Fashion - Giles Deacon says his debut collection for Ungaro has been inspired by some of the “amazing” and “hysterical” pieces in the fashion house’s archive.
The British designer became the French fashion house’s creative director in May this year and he will showcase his debut collection for the label during Paris Fashion Week in October.
Giles says his inspiration behind his first collection came from familiarising himself with the vast Ungaro archive.
“They [Ungaro] have got an amazing photographic, fabric and collection archive so I’ve spent quite a bit of time getting my head into all of that,” he revealed to Grazia magazine.
He explained that there are “some amazing pieces” as well as “some hysterical pieces.”
The designer was quick to add that despite being inspired by past Ungaro pieces and making sure he remained in line with the brand, he had certainly made his own unique mark to the new designs.
“There’s all of the Ungaro staples,” he promises, which will be “reinterpreted in a kind of modern Giles way”.
Giles also said that he hoped his collection for Ungaro would help put the fashion house regain its reputation after some issues earlier in the year.
He thinks his line will help reinstate a “quality...which I think it had kind of lost - for lots of reasons that have gone on over the last five years that we’re all very aware of.”
The firm famously experienced a lot of upheaval before Giles became creative director. Lindsay Lohan left her role as artistic advisor to the brand, while head designer Estrella Archs also moved on. (C) Cover Media
