In the Oscars race...

12th September 2013
It's that time of the year again when Indian films compete with each other to be nominated in the Best Foreign film category at the Oscars.

The Film Federation of India has invited entries and the forerunner seem to be Anurag Kashyap and Karan Johar's co-production venture 'The Lunchbox' that stars Irrfan Khan, Nawazuddin Siddique and Nimrat Kaur.

We also hear that Anand Gandhi's 'Ship of Theseus' and Abhishek Kapoor's 'Kai Po Che' are also being considered.

It was Anurag Basu's 'Barfi' that was sent last year, but a close second consideration was given to SS Rajamoulli's Telugu film 'Eega'

This year too, Tollywood is hopeful that their film 'Chaduvukovali', directed by Venkateswara Rao Maddali will also be in the race.

Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's 'Rang De Basanti' was a strong contender for the Academy Award in 2006 and this year too his film 'Bhaag Milkha Bhaag' is being considered.

Though, India has been sending its entries since 1957, till date only three Indian films have been nominated at the Academy Awards - Mehboob Khan's 'Mother India' in 1957, Mira Nair's 'Salaam Bombay' in 1988 and Ashutosh Gowariker's 'Lagaan' in 2001.

Let's wait and watch if we get a nomination at this prestigious award ceremony this year or not.
