Jake Gyllenhaal: Im in shape because Im vain

20th December 2010

(Cover) - EN Star Style - Jake Gyllenhaal has joked he gets into shape for movies due to pure vanity.

The 30-year-old actor has bulked up for numerous film roles, such as the blockbuster Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time where he displayed a particularly toned physique.

In his latest project, romantic drama Love and Other Drugs, he displays a less beefy body. He is still in great shape though, which he joked was a result of narcissism before admitting he did actually consider how his character Jamie Randalls physique should be.

Its purely vanity, he laughingly told Cover Media about his buff body.

We didnt really think about getting in shape, I didnt. I wanted my character to be a little skinny and sinewy and slimy.

The actor did have praise for his co-star Anne Hathaway though. The beautiful actress portrays a young female suffering with the early onset of Parkinsons disease in the film, and lost weight to make her characters diagnosis look more believable. Jake backed up Annes comments that she would have happily gained weight had that been a side-effect of the illness.

I do honesty believe that Annie would have changed her body however it needed to be changed for the character. If it said Parkinsons made you become Iron Man or something, she would, she really would have, thats the kind of actor she is, he added. (C) Cover Media
