January Jones has "nothing in common" with her Mad Men character's approach to parenting.
The single mother to seven-month-old son Xander Dane plays the role of Betty Francis on the hit series. Betty is a mother of three, formerly married to womanising advertising executive Don Draper. January insists their approach to nurturing kids is very different.
"I have nothing in common with Betty when it comes to mothering," she told UK magazine Grazia.
"I am enjoying myself so much, whereas I don't think Betty sees the fun in it. She sees it as a burden and an inconvenience, she's just not good at it."
Six weeks after giving birth January returned to work on the series, based on a New York advertising agency in the 1960s.
With the fifth series under way following an 18-month hiatus, January has been juggling work and motherhood. She has said she is lucky to have a nanny so she can bring her son to work.
"I can't imagine having to be away from him," she explained.
She adds her priorities have changed since becoming a mother. Her parenting means her dedication to fashion has fallen by the way side.
"There's less glamour in my life though, now that I am a mother," she said.
"I get more excited about cosy T-shirts than about an amazing pair of heels. That is so sad. But your priorities just change."
