(Cover) - EN Movies - Johnny Depp has been named the highest earning actor in Hollywood.
The star came second a new poll of the 40 wealthiest people in the movie business last year, conducted by Vanity Fair magazine.
The publication estimates the 47-year-old netted $100 million in 2010, including $40 million for his part in Tim Burtons Alice in Wonderland. The figure also includes a pre-payment of $35 million thanks to his decision to reprise his role as Captain Jack Sparrow in the upcoming film Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. He also made $20 from The Tourist, and more money from older releases.
Despite taking home the staggering sum, Johnny was beaten to the top spot by director James Cameron. It is thought he raked in $257 million last year, meaning he jumped to the top of the list after being named fourth in 2009. The lions share of the cash, $253 million, came from his global smash Avatar.
Director Steven Spielberg came in third with $80 million, $50 million of which was from theme park royalties and consulting fees.
Rounding out the top five are Inception director Christopher Nolan, who came in fourth with $71.5 million, and the movies star Leonardo DiCaprio who netted $62 million.
The highest-ranking actress was Kristen Stewart, whose earnings were put at $28.5 million, the majority of which came from the Twilight franchise.
Kristens co-star Robert Pattinson took the 15th spot with $27.5 million. In one of the lists biggest shocks, the pairs other co-star Taylor Lautner beat them both to claim number nine on the list.
The 18-year-old hunk is understood to have made $33.5 million. He received $12.5 apiece for signing on to the final two Twilight movies, Breaking Dawn Parts 1 and 2 the same amount Robert and Kristen were paid.
