21st April 2011
Animation films are the latest technological advancement. The first animation film in Kannada was 'Chintu School'. What is interesting, is that the late Shankar Nag is animated in forty percent of the film 'Khaaravela', an offering from Namana Films and ORION Pictures and rest of the characters are flesh and blood.

Anaji Nagaraj joins the team of Animedia and APS Animation Productions in this Rs. 4 to 5 crore venture. 'Khaaravela', a mixture of animation and the usual format of film making, is the work of Abdul Karim, Srihari and Purandar. Purandar is the director of this project. This project evolved after eight years of joining hands."We have done lot of research and development work before the start", says Purandar."We are influenced by Kannada films and taking Kannada films to greater heights is our goal," says Purandar.

Abdul Karim, one of the producers who also owns an animation company says,"We thought of making something special and were struck with the idea of bringing on the much loved actor and director Shanker Nag. In 36 years, he has proved his mettle and inspired us. After two years, after serious thought we have taken this up and it is a three year project so far. After Anaji Nagaraj saw our work, he wished to join us. We have the technology and resources. What we need is the support."

Shankar Nag's portion will be for over half an hour of the one hour twenty minute feature film. 'Khaaravela' is about the Chola dynasty.
