Lindsay Lohan has put herself on self-imposed house arrest, it is reported.

The Mean Girls star is just days away from finally being free of her probation stemming from a necklace theft case last year where she pleaded no contest.

But after she was accused of hitting a man in the early hours of last Thursday morning with her Porsche as she left a Hollywood club, her family and friends have advised her to lay low until she is clear of her court mandated duties.

Lindsay has vigorously denied the claims that she was involved in a hit and run and she has not been cited for anything pertaining to the incident.

Police told US website TMZ that after investigation "no one was injured so as far as they are concerned it's case closed."

However, it could be reopened if the man later claims injury.

The site reports that Lindsay has agreed to now only leave her home when she absolutely has to.

She is expected to complete her community service at the morgue in the coming days and her probation hearing is scheduled for March 29.
