(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Oksana Grigorieva stayed with Mel Gibson after their heated argument because he begged and cried on his knees.

The Russian singer has 12-month-old daughter Lucia with the Hollywood star, but they split earlier this year. Although the break-up was initially amicable relations soon soured, with Oksana filing for a restraining order, claiming Mel was violent. She alleged he punched her in the face, breaking her teeth, during a January 6 argument, although he has denied it.

A number of recordings of the incident made by Oksana have been leaked online, and apparently show Mel using violent, racist and abusive language towards her. She has previously admitted being terrified of the star during the incident, and was convinced he would kill her. Oksana has now admitted she stayed with him longer than she should have, and spoke of the reasons why.

I started taping it around 11 o'clock because I thought, 'I'm actually not going to live through the night. I'm actually not going to live through the night and... she said during an interview on American show Larry King Live due to air today. I stayed for a little bit too long. I gave him the last chance. He asked me for the last chance. He begged. He cried. He cried on his knees. What am I supposed to do?

Oksana added she thought if she died, her mother would be able to listen to the recordings and tell people what had happened to her.

Mel has previously battled a problem with alcohol, but Oksana insists that wasnt the reason behind his outburst. There was no liquor, not once. He never drunk. I mean, one time he drunk when he was away. That's the only time he drunk. I've never ever seen him drinking (sic), she said. (C) Cover Media
