Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster RETURNS with a bang!!

In 2011, Tigmanshu Dhulia's film 'Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster' was announced as a surprise hit for all, and soon after, the director planned to make a sequel to it.

Waiting for more than a year now, 'Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster Returns' sure has many expectations. So, does the film do justice to what Dhulia's ensemble cast had earlier presented? Well yes, but not entirely.

'Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster Returns' begins right where the prequel ended. However, to enjoy the film it is not important to watch the prequel.

In the opening credits, Dhulia reminds you of what had happened in the earlier part and then takes the story forward. It takes you back to the land of kings whose dynasties are not as royal as they used to be, but the attitudes haven't changed.

They are still trying to battle each other. Women, power and money come into play, and one man who has many enemies is, yet again, Saheb Aditya Singh Thakur (Jimmy Shergil). The Gangster this time is a devastated royal heir, Inderjeet Singh (Irrfan Khan).

There is no denying that Dhulia is a proficient director and he manages to convince us with this film yet again. His actors and script are perfectly controlled by him. However, one thing that he forgets to pay attention to is the editing and the length of the film.

It is not as gripping as the prequel, but yes, there are many such moments that will make you get up and applaud him. His sharp characters and edgy narration will make you sit till the end, the climax being as interesting as it was in the prequel.

Jimmy Shergil was the star in the prequel and he continues to be one in the sequel too. His screen presence and the panache with which he takes his character to the next level, despite being on the wheel chair most of the time, is commendable. Currently, one of the most underrated actor, Shergill needs to be seen with a different eye by today's filmmakers.

Mahie Gill maintains consistency as being Saheb's half-insane Biwi and does her job well.

Dhulia should also be credited for roping in a perfect cast. He brings in new flavours with Irrfan Khan, Soha Ali Khan and Raj Babbar in the film. Each one being as impactful as the other.

Irrfan is calm and composed, and definitely one of the best actors we have, while the surprise package was definitely Soha. She does'nt only look good, but also performs impeccably well.

The dialogues are the main USP of the film and are sure to get whistles from the single screen audiences.

The item songs were good but they do not cross the benchmark set by others in the industry. Music is okay while the cinematography sure is interesting.

There is nothing to not like about the film, however, sharp editing could have made it much better than what it is today. Watch the film for Tigmanshu and the star cast.
