6th September 2011

The Madras High Court on Monday rejected an anticipatory bail plea by Sun Pictures chief operating officer Hansraj Saxena in a case registered on a complaint by Dhyanapeeta Charitable Trust of Karnataka's Ramnagar district.

The case was related to the telecast of visuals of god man Nithyananda in the company of an actor. It is to be noted that Saxena is cooling his heels in the Puzhal jail since July 3rd, when he was arrested at the Chennai airport based on complaints from a couple of film distributors.

On Monday, the bail application was was dismissed by Justice T Mathivanan. Nithya Atmaprabhananda, manager of the Trust, had preferred a complaint against nine persons, including Saxena for offences including wrongful restraint and confinement, robbery and criminal intimidation.

In his intervener petition, Prabhananda submitted that the case has been transferred to CB-CID for probe as per the August 8 orders of the director-general of police. Claiming that the offences are grave in nature, he said that if granted bail Saxena would tamper with evidence and influence witnesses.
